			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This program has really opened my eyes to how much I actually eat.  I&#8217;m a full time grad student in an online program, so I spend most of my time at home.  I didn&#8217;t realize just how much I snack &#8211; a piece of cheese here, a handful of nuts there.  And I think about food all the time.  Between meals, I feel like I&#8217;m jonesing for a snack, even if I&#8217;m not hungry.  It&#8217;s really rather incredible.  I&#8217;m not sure how much of it is related to my gluten intolerance and how much is psychological.  When you&#8217;re gluten intolerant and still recovering (or still eating gluten), you&#8217;re body isn&#8217;t getting enough nutrients, so you&#8217;re brain tells you to keep eating even though you&#8217;re full.  I&#8217;ve been gluten free for almost a year, and it has certainly gotten better, but I still eat when I&#8217;m not hungry.</p>
<p>Exercise:</p>
<p>1 hour on the treadmill in the morning</p>
<p>Food:</p>
<p>Brunch (10:30): hot cereal (3 points), coffee with cream (2 points), hard boiled egg (2 points)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>J and I have decided to try to lose weight together. I think this could be really helpful in my weight-loss journey because I tend to do ok all week, and then slip up when we spend the weekend together. We&#8217;ll be doing Weight Watchers &#8211; just the plan, not the meetings. I&#8217;m hoping that this will give us the right balance of rigidity and flexibility.  We&#8217;ve decided to start January 1st (despite the fact that it&#8217;s really cliche), and we&#8217;ll reward ourselves (spa day anyone?) each time we make it another 25% to our goal (which is about 20 pounds for each of us). </p>
<p>I want to do some prep work now. I want to get back in the habit of writing down what I eat and exercising daily. I&#8217;d also like to stop being a social smoker. And I&#8217;d like to lose about seven pounds so J and I both start with a goal of 75 pounds. I also have been using alfalfa tea and beet kvass for anemia. It&#8217;s helping, but I don&#8217;t always remember to drink the tea or the tonic every day. I&#8217;d like to get better about that. </p>
<p>All of our discussions about this have made me start thinking about other resolutions. I made a list of food related goals (like make all of the egg dishes in Mastering the Art of French Cooking and perfecting a gluten free pie crust) but then I realized they would interfere with my weight loss goals. Here is the modified list:<br />
1. Make all 101 of Mark Bittman&#8217;s salads. I&#8217;m envisioning a spreadsheet so I can sort by when ingredients are in season.<br />
2. Read 50 books. I want to make a dent in the 100+ books I own but haven&#8217;t read. I&#8217;m going to join a goodreads group for motivation.<br />
3. Be a tourist in my own city. There are so many things to do in Philadelphia, and many of them I&#8217;ve never done (or haven&#8217;t done since I was a kid).  I&#8217;m really excited about this one (although I have a feeling J isn&#8217;t).</p>

<p>My mom told me that I&#8217;m looking really good &#8211; which was very nice to hear.</p>
<p>1. I did my C25K on the treadmill this morning.  It was a bit easier than on the road &#8211; and I don&#8217;t have to be embarrassed when I&#8217;m really struggling and a line of cars goes by.  When I get a little better I&#8217;ll take it outside again.  Also, someone told me that I should be breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth, which helped a lot.</p>
<p>2. 64 oz water: check</p>
<p>3. Breakfast: 12:00 – oatmeal, an apple, coffee, and vegetable juice.<br />
Lunch: 4:30 – 2 eggs and 3 corn tortillas with hot sauce.</p>
<p>Dinner: 8:30 – I sauteed some kale and added leftover chili.  That didn&#8217;t quite do the trick, so I had some tea (with sugar) and (gluten free) toast.</p>
<p>4. Fish oil and emergen-c: check</p>
<p>5. Food after dinner: dinner was very late because of class, but I didn&#8217;t eat after dinner</p>

<p>Snack: 11:30 &#8211; a glass of milk</p>

<p>5. No eating after dinner: dinner was very late because of class, and I did have a glass of milk</p>
